This seminar will be given by Martin H. Abo, CPA/ABV/CVA/CFF.  Marty is a high profile expert within both the accounting and legal communities.  He has operated in a supportive capacity to attorneys, judges, adjusters and clients in providing ongoing facilitaiton in the negotiation and/or litigation process.

This course will present the basic rules and concepts you need to know in order to value a law practice.  If you're thinking about retiring and turning your practice over to a successor; if you're handling a deceased attorney's estate and need to come up with a value of the decedent's law pratice for purposes of estate distribution or federal estate or New Jersey inheritance tax purposes; if you're representing a fellow attorney in a divorce proceeding and need to value your colleague's practice for purposes of property settlement negotiations when dividing assets; if you're looking to acquire an existing law practice or wish to join a practice as a partner; if you're called upon to represent a colleague in a bankruptcy proceeding, this course is for you.

Are you earning enough income from you practice – is it time to change career paths?  Do you rent space in your building to other attorneys, accountants, realtors, stock brokers, insurance agents, appraisers?  Would you be better off expanding your own practice into this office space rather than renting it out to others?  You can't answer thse questions knowledgeably unless you understand the value of your own practice.

This course will clear up misconceptions and myths that surround valuing a law practice.  The ethical considerations of selling a practice will be briefly touched upon.
